Post Office warns of home insurance risk for home workers
London, UK (PRWeb UK) October 16, 2009 -- New research from Post Office Home Insurance (http://www.postoffice.co.uk/portal/po/jump1?mediaId=19300229&catId=19300223) has shown that the home/office divide is disappearing for many workers, as people are spending increasing amounts of time working at home.
Thirty per cent of UK workers, or 8.5 million people, have used their home as a place of work in the last 18 months. But Post Office Home Insurance (http://www.postoffice.co.uk/portal/po/jump1?mediaId=19300229&catId=19300223) is warning that many may not have the correct levels of home insurance cover.
Given how much more time people are spending on their profession at home, Post Office Home Insurance is urging consumers to check whether they have adequate home insurance to protect against theft or damage. Latest figures from the Association of British Insurers (ABI) reveal that 24 per cent of households in the UK are without home contents insurance, which is putting many home workers at risk.
The Post Office Home Insurance research also revealed that of all respondents who used their home as an office, 89 per cent didn't believe they had sufficient home insurance cover.
Richard Pennant-Jones, Post Office Head of General Insurance, said: "With more people using their homes for business purposes, it's important to ensure the right home insurance is in place. If you use your home as your office and it's listed as your business premises, then you may need to take out extra home insurance as your standard home contents policy may not cover you. We recommend that people check with their provider to confirm what their home insurance covers."
